St. Mary's Healthcare has also been named a 2026 Times Union Top Workplace—the first acute care hospital in the Capital Region to earn the distinction since the Times Union launched the recognition program 14 years ago.Job Requisition: HISTO001612 Employment Type: Full-time Shift: Days Hours Per Week: 40-hour/weekHiring range: $25.30 - $32.89 hourlyBelow are the shift differentials based on eligible shifts worked:Weekday evening shift - additional 10%Weekday night shift - additional 15%Weekend day shift - additional 10%Weekend evening & night shifts - additional 21%The actual compensation for this position will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.Responsibilities:Follows established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens forInputs patient demographics into computer Reports results and maintains documentation.Operates and maintains equipment used for embedding and sectioningFollows safety requirements and appropriately handles and disposes ofPerforms histological preparation of samples including the embedding, cutting and staining of tissue for pathology.Performs special stains on tissue, including the operation and maintenance of equipment and supplies used in this task.Complexity of Work:Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment.Personal Protective Equipment:Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.Licensure/Certification/Registration:Required Credential(s): Valid New York State Histologic Technician Certification or Valid NYS Medical Technician license Required prior to hire date or job transfer date.
